Blair Court Community House is a non-profit, multi-service organization directly located in a subsidized housing community. Blair Court Community House offers social, educational and recreational programs and services to children, youth and families. During the summer months, the community house offers a number of special day time and evening programs to children and youth. The Summer Program Leader, reporting to the Executive Director, will be responsible for providing a variety of fun and engaging activities to a diverse group of children and youth living in and around the Blair Court community.
Responsibilities:
Ø provide direct recreational programming for children and youth ages 5-18
Ø provide direct supervision of children and youth
Ø plan, implement and facilitate programming
Ø outreach to the community
Ø perform other duties as required to help support the work of the community house
Ø attend related workshops and training
Ø ensure the safety and cleanliness of the program area
Ø administrative duties
Ø other related duties as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements:
Ø enrolled in or recently completed post secondary in Recreation, Child and Youth Worker, Social Services or related field
Ø experience working with children, youth and families
Ø knowledge and understanding of poverty and minority issues
Ø ability to work independently and as a member of a team
Ø strong interpersonal skills
Ø experience in organized sports as a participant or a coach
Ø current police records check and CPR First Aid certification
Ø English essential, French or other languages an asset
- Applicant MUST be between the ages of 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**; and,
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
Applicant MUST be available to work flexible hours, both daytime and evening hours from Monday-Thursday and for the duration of the contract period.
